Message from Irene Nesbit, President Nesbit Systems, Inc.
It's been a busy winter. We have been working on several system innovations, including additional
functionality to our WebMLS product that we outline below. We are also working on some "nice to
have" features for the
Media Library System, including improved system navigation and
reporting features. Always improving; always working.
Nesbit Systems Inc. has selected DeBow Communications, one of America's oldest independent
marketing communications firm, to assist in the strategic repositioning of our product line and to
launch a comprehensive media and direct marketing campaign to highlight the customer benefits of
our
Media Library System product line. We will be launching this new campaign in the next
few weeks.
It's that time of Year Again: Nesbit Systems will be at the NAB.
This year's National Association of Broadcasters convention is gearing up to be an informative one.
Our world is more practical and knowledgeable about digital video. And we have greater
understanding about your needs for maintaining your physical assets.
Once again, Nesbit Systems will have a presence at NAB - with a hospitality suite at the Bellagio
Hotel. Consider this your home away from home. Come relax, grab a bite, call the office or home,
check your emails.
At the Bellagio, we will also be demoing the NSi Media Library System and introducing a few new
features and functionality in response to feedback from you, our customers. We are really excited
about being in Las Vegas this year and look forward to seeing you.
The NAB convention is April 19 - 22, throughout Las Vegas. To find us at the Bellagio, check for
signage in the Lobby or just ask the Concierge.
New remote scanner direction
An integral part of the NSi Media Library System is the integration with Scanners for input of barcode information. In the last few months, there have been a number of innovations in scanner hardware and software, and we've been on the hunt to find the best possible solution that will improve the input/update process and that advantage of the work we are doing in advanced scanning and database management functionality.
As part of our search, we identified a number of features and functionality we felt were critical for the successful integration with the NSi MLS. These included:
- Robust - if you drop the scanner on the floor, it will keep on working.
- Ergonomic - the scanner needs to be physically easy to hold and use. And, it needs to be just the right weight - not too light, not too heavy.
- RF communication and Internet access - the future scanners need to incorporate these capabilities.
- Non-proprietary - we would like to find off-the-shelf hardware. This will keep the costs lower, and enable us to program greater functionality into the device.
Email us with your thoughts. What are your needs? At NAB, we will have some of the new devices
with us. Remember - we are at a suite at the Bellagio.
New NSi web site
We have also redesigned our web site, making it more intuitive and easier on the eye. You can now
download our newsletters and tips, as well as a self-running demo of the
Media Library System.
In the next several weeks we will add new features to the site in conjunction with our work with
DeBow Communications. Please stay tuned.
New System Features
Media Library System - Improved reporting
We have added several new reporting features to MLS, which make it easier to manipulate reports
and track and format pull lists. Our summary report now supports new sort and display features,
which are available with a simple mouse click. And the system will now allow the building of pull
lists by scanning the barcodes of the media elements or entering them into the scan screen. These
items can then be imported to the summary screen with all relevant data associated with those
elements, and can there be formatted for specific reporting needs. It's a great new feature.
WebMLS
Our web based system also now supports better print formatting. We are currently working on
enriching the drill down reporting capabilities of WebMLS and will be reporting more on this in
our next newsletter.
Tip Corner: Media Asset Organization 101
In each issue, I will share with you one of our tips for helping you get your media asset house
in order.
Identify your Customers (Internal & External) and their Needs
Start by thinking about who uses your media assets. What do they use them for? How often? How
quickly do they need them? Do you have daily requests for high volume transfers? Do you service
customers who are taking media out of the building? Do you provide media to edit suites? To other
companies?
Understanding your customers' media needs is the first step in being able to deliver value, and to
deliver that value - whether to an internal producer or senior product manager, or an external
customer, such as press, partners or media outlet.
That's all folks - we hope to see you at NAB!
